Swami Paramananda was born in Krisnadevpur village in Burdwan. From early childhood he had a strong bohemian spirit and he travelled throughout the country alone. He had no attraction for conventional education. He yearned to taste the depth of life. He worked in a rural electrification for two and half years to support his poor family. Later he resigned from his job and took sannyas. In 1978 he set up a spiritual and social service centre, Paramananda Mission at Banagram in Burdwan. He had practiced all kinds of Sadhanas and experienced life in all its diverse colours. At only 45, when he left his worldly body, his services had reached every nook and corner of rural Bengal. Meanwhile his influence started to penetrate the minds of numerous followers, disciples and admirers all over the world. He was a guru, a mentor and a leader. But more significantly he was a mystic, a baul, a lover, a poet and a true friend. He is a thought leader of our times, the voice of his generation and the echo of the universal purpose.
