Maramia Azimganj Spiritual Society

Maramia epitomises the spirit of the Baul. Here discipline and silence, discussions and meditation, yog and music, devotion and service, books and films, sports and laughter, food and festivals are not rituals, they are all integrated and ingrained in a conscious journey of divine life. We dismantle rigidities of all kinds, religious, political, scientific, economic systems, social norms, educational methods and individual prejudices. We embrace good intentions. We celebrate the research of Rishis, we play with the young Krishna in Vrindavan, we share the burden of Jesus, we are in awe of the Buddha's solitary effort to redeem the world, we appreciate the courage and vision of Mohammad, we worship the versatile renouncer, Shiva, we invoke our hidden strengths through Durga and Kali, we sing with Rumi and Lalan Fakir, we sip the nectar of Ramakrishna and discover all these and more in the manifestation of Paramananda. We are intimately close to personal gods and goddesses, avatars and gurus, divine figures and symbols of all communities and sects. At the same time we feast on the impersonal abstract, the non-dual Entity, the Absolute Pure Consciousness. Swami Paramananda respected tradition and broke a few rules with the Mission that he created with us. But we believe, Maramia is his experiment that showcases futuristic spiritual possibilities. It is radical and embracing, challenging and celebratory, natural and universal.
