About Us

"Maramia" is a word that Bauls in Bengal use in their songs. It means 'one who knows and acts from the heart. The whole concept of Maramia has been driven by the ideals of Swami Paramananda (25th December 1954 to 27th November 1999).

Maramia is small in size but huge in potential. We don't call it an ashram, its a spiritual centre. Its a place for satsang, meditation, yoga, music, arts and studies. Its a place for friendship, love and freedom.

On the east is the Bhagirathi, which is another name for Ganges here in Murshidabad. About 200 meters north is an old burning ghat. Just to the south is an old place of worship under an ancient tree, the tribals call it the jungle Kali. Its quiet and seems far removed from the humdrum of social life. And yet its just a 7 minute walk from the Azimganj junction station.

Maramia is a happy place, its a place that energises and inspires, a place that excites and stimulates. Its a place that is being built with love. It reflects divinity.
